Mt. Rainier, 2010 Summit for Heroes.

    Hey all,

As most of you know, Cops on Top has set the 2010 Summit for Heroes for June 26th.  In speaking with Troy Bacon I’ve learned that Mt. Rainier has not had any summit attempts for the last few years during the Summit for Heroes event.  This year I would like to change that, especially with the tragic loss of six Seattle area officers in the latter part of 2009. So, I’m looking for interested parties to join me.

When I first began thinking about a Rainier attempt to coincide with the Summit for Heroes event, I was thinking I would go back up the mountain with RMI, mainly because I don’t have any guiding experience.   I exchanged some E-mails with Troy and he suggested I post on the website to look for other members to join me, because there are some very qualified people out there.  He also told me there has been a lot of recent interest for a Rainier summit.

As I mentioned, I don’t have any guiding experience so I would like to find somebody who does.

I would really enjoy being able to build a team for this event and look forward to hearing from anybody with ideas, or who are interested in joining me.

    Take care and be safe,

    Ryan,

I hope a team can be put together. Mt Rainier is a beautiful mountain and a joy to climb. It would be great to put a team up there for the 2010 Cops on Top Summit for Heroes!

     Troy,

I agree, especially with all the recent Law Enforcement tragedies they've had up there.  I'm looking forward to another summit attempt.

P.S. - Awesome photo of Mt. Adams rising from the clouds.  I love the way the view from Camp Muir changes from one minute to the next.

I would be interested in doing this trip but the timing would be tricky as I'm supposed to be in Idaho for a family reunion during that time.  I wouldn't add much in the way of experience as far as the mountaineering side of things goes, but I do well at altitude having hiked several 14ers in Colorado and I'm in pretty good shape as I do 100 mile mountain bike races.  I also have some basic rock climbing skills (which I realize is not the same as mountaineering).

I don't know how much experience you want for this trip but I would be game if I could figure out the logistics of making it happen schedule wise.

Trevor, If you could send me your E-mail address to rh12183@msn.com, I'll send you back some info on the climb. Thanks, Ryan
